Year 7s setting up camp

Year 7 Camp, The Mill

Year 7 camp began on the 27th of June at The Mill, William Ellis’ centre for outdoor learning. The Mill, is situated in the picturesque village of Forest Green which lies nestled within the Surrey Hills just outside Dorking and students camp in the meadows that surround the property.

During the first week of Year 7 camp students participated in a range of activities including hill walking, orienteering, survival skills, rocket building, visiting a castle and a trip to the seaside. For survival skills students learnt how to build a den in the woods for shelter. The students said the trip to the seaside and castle was a particular highlight, with students getting to try on knights' armour. Here are some words from Casey in 7L about his week at Year 7 camp:

"What I liked about The Mill is we got to know each other across all the different forms a little bit more. Thursday was my favourite day because we got to go to the seaside and the castle and that was very entertaining. If somebody asked me next year whether to go to camp I would say yes because you would have the time of your life but if you want to go to camp don’t expect to come back clean and get ready to become wild."
