Message to all Students from La Swap Headteachers

Dear Parent / Carer and La Swap student ,

Student Protests against  education funding cuts.

We recognise that very many of you – like ourselves and staff in our schools – are very concerned about the impact of the government’s proposed changes to the funding of higher education and the abolition of education maintenance allowances for everyone but young people from the most seriously disadvantaged homes. We know that some of you have already taken part in the large central London  demonstrations and recognise that some of you will also wish to take part in the national protests in Central London planned for Thursday. La Swap teachers and staff will also be represented at this event.

We wish to remind you that as school students you should seek permission from your parents if you are planning to be absent from school and that parents will be informed of any student absence from  lessons on Thursday.

Meanwhile, we want to take this opportunity to remind you that no sixth formers should be encouraging other students to get involved in protest activities and that if there is  any evidence of individuals in any of the four schools inciting and /or pressurising others it will lead to disciplinary action being taken against them.

Finally, we would like to remind you generally of some basic behaviour expectations of La Swap students:

  • You must wear your La Swap ID at all times and show it to gain admittance to any La Swap school
  • Any participation in activities which disrupt the safe and effective day to day running of the school and /or illegal will be treated very seriously and lead to disciplinary sanctions. This includes misuse of equipment and facilities, acts of vandalism etc.
  • No student should be smoking in areas close to any of the schools as they are smoke free public sites and buildings.

Please reread the La Swap learners’ agreement and code of conduct if you are unsure about what is permitted.

If you have any comments or queries about any of this information please discuss with the relevant Head of Year or Director of Sixth.

Yours sincerely,

J Hislop,                S Higgins,             J Armitage,         M Williams.
