WILLIAM ELLIS SCHOOL IS DELIGHTED WITH SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT IN GCSE RESULTS

HEADLINE FIGURES FROM THE GOVERNMENT'S SCHOOL PERFORMANCE TABLES

There were 122 students on roll in Year 11 at William Ellis School, (123 in the performance tables) 

  • 67% achieved C and above in English and maths
  • 37% achieved English Baccalaureate
  • Attainment 8 score 50.5
  • Progress 8 score -0.36

118 students sat public examinations at William Ellis School in the summer of 2016:

  • 67% of boys achieved 5 or more GCSEs at C and above including English and maths
  • 71% achieved C and above in English and maths
  • 37% achieved English Baccalaureate
  • 23% of results were As and A*s with 26 boys (22%) gaining at least 5 A and A* grades
  • 45% of boys achieved at least one GCSE at A or A*
  • In English 73% of boys achieved C or above and 19% achieved A or A*
  • in maths 76% of boys achieved C or above and 23% achieved A or A*
  • 73%  of the cohort achieved 2 or more Science GCSEs at C and above

RESULTS IN THE CORE SUBJECTS: ENGLISH, MATHS AND SCIENCE

There have been strong performances in all three core subjects: English, maths and science.

In English 81% of boys have achieved grade C or better, best ever success rate.

76% of the students achieved a grade C or above in Mathematics, the previous record was 73%.

Science results are strong with a high proportion of A and A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, nearly half, 48%, of boys took GCSEs in the three separate sciences.  73% of students have achieved a grade C in at least one Science subject.

OVERALL RESULTS

37% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate (English, Maths, Geography or History, two Sciences and a Foreign Language at A* - C) [compared to 19% of boys nationally]. 

71% of boys achieved 5 or more GCSEs at C and above.

Almost half the cohort, 57 boys, took GCSEs in the three separate sciences and they achieved excellent results Biology (33% A & A*); Chemistry (39% A & A*); Physics (47% A & A*).  Other subjects with more than a quarter of grades at A & A* include: Computing (30%), French (28%), Geography (27%), History (34%), Music (38%) and Spanish (32%)

INDIVIDUAL SUCCESSES

There have been a number of outstanding individual performances, for example 26 boys achieved 5 or more A and A* grades and 14 achieved 8 or more: Laurie (9A*, 3A); Hugo (6A*, 6A); Yedidiah (10A*, 2A); Leon (11A*); Maceo (7A*, 4A); Ahmed (3A*, 6A); Youcef (4A*, 5A); Zach (2A*, 7A); Alban (1A*, 8A); Hugh (1A*, 8A); Korbin (4A*, 5A); Claudio (6A*, 2A); Luke (8A) and, Eyuale (8A)

However, what matters most is the progress of each student. There are many students who have made outstanding progress given their starting points. Well done.
