119 students in Year 11 were entered for over 1150 GCSE examinations this year and 80% of our students have achieved 5 or more A*- C passes (up from 71% last year).

Results in the core subjects: English, Maths and Science

Maths and science have been particularly successful. Results in English have dipped slightly as in many other schools across the country.

61% of students achieved a grade C or above in English, an unexpected drop from last year’s 66%.

71% of the students achieved a grade C or above in Mathematics, a school record. A third achieved A or A*.

Science results show a significant improvement over previous years with 86% of students achieving a grade C in at least one Science subject and 83% achieving A* - C in two or more Sciences. 75% of grades in the three separate sciences are A or A*.

56% of students achieved 5 A* - C passes including English and Maths (lower than the 60% last year, attributed to lower results in English)

Overall results

33% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate (English, Maths, Geography or History, two Sciences and a Foreign Language at A* - C) [Nationally the figure was 17% in 2011].

Almost all subjects have a greater proportion of students getting good GCSE grades and A & A* grades. At least a third of the grades in Maths, Art, Business, History, ICT, Music and RE are A or A*. 75% of grades in the three separate sciences are A or A*.

Individual successes

There have been a number of outstanding individual achievements, for example 14 boys achieved 8 or more A and A* grades and of these, 6 boys achieved 10 or more A and A* grades. However what matters most is the progress of each student. There are some students who have made outstanding progress given their starting points.

My congratulations go to our students and my gratitude to the teachers and parents and carers who have supported them so well in their preparations for these examinations.
