GCSE Art trip to the Wiener Library

Year Ten GCSE Art Students Visit the Wiener Library

Year ten GCSE art students have made a fantastic start to the year and their identity and portraits project. As part of their project they visited the Wiener library to see an exhibition called degenerate art. The group learned about how during the holocaust some kinds of art were banned by the Nazis as they wanted to control what images people could see.they did this because they wanted to control what people thought and felt and art and images are a powerful way to protest or to teach people. One artist that was banned was Picasso. So the year ten group had a go at creating their own 'degenerate' art and made a portrait in the style of Picasso!

The visit was very interesting and students had a discussion about how history, politics, art and education are linked into our identity.
