LaSWAP Open Evening for Year 11 students

LaSWAP Open Evening 2024 takes place on Thursday 28th November – please add this date to your diaries!

Priority booking is now open for William Ellis and other LaSWAP school students. Our students have a short period of exclusive access. On Tuesday 22nd October, booking will open to all students across London and we are expecting to be fully booked!

Places can be booked using this link.

The LaSWAP open evening will take place at Parliament Hill and William Ellis schools. It is the perfect chance for students and families to find out more about the consortium and our curriculum, staff and community.

Students must book in order to attend Open Evening and they must attend with an adult. If you are unable to accompany your child, we may be able to arrange for a member of staff to take them. Please contact their form tutor or Mr Dennis if this is the case.

Attendance and Behaviour Updates

Our overall attendance so far this academic year is 2% higher than 2023-24, and the majority of students in Year 7 to 11 have 100% attendance so far this year. Particular congratulations to 11W, 10L, 9B, 8L and 7F for having the highest attendance each week in their year group.

It is really important that students attend school each day and are on time, next week going into half term and also in November and December.

Student Leadership and Personal Development

All students in Year 7, 8 and 9 had a trip to The Mill this year as part of their Personal Development curriculum. Although we know that there are some parents who need financial support from the school,

we have a number of parents who had agreed to pay a contribution towards this trip and have not yet done so. Having contributions from some parents enables us to subsidise those who most need it. If you are able to pay for your son's trip to The Mill but still have an outstanding payment on Parent Pay, we would appreciate if this was settled before the end of November. If you are unable to pay this but your son did attend The Mill, please contact his Head of Year.

Parents’ Evenings and MCAS

Parents’ Evenings this academic year will take place as follows:

Year 13 - 21st November

Year 7 - 12th December

Year 9 - 16th January

Year 11 - 29th January (TBC)

Year 12 - 27th February

Year 10 - 13th March

Year 8 - 1st May

All Parents' Evenings begin at 4.30, with appointments up to 7pm.

Appointment booking for Parents’ Evenings will be via your child’s MCAS account. You will be notified when booking opens for your child’s year group. If you do not already regularly use MCAS, please click on the following link to set up your account: https://www.mychildatschool.com/MCAS/MCSForgottenLogin (you will need to use the email address to which this newsletter has been sent).

If you need support in setting up an account or if you have queries about an existing account, guidance can be found here: https://docs.bromcom.com/article-categories/for-parents/ . You can also contact us via info@williamellis.camden.sch.uk

MCAS is also used for issuing academic progress information and grade sheets and parents/carers can monitor behaviour and attendance information from this portal. Please do use the portal to engage with your child’s education if you do not already do so.

Non-Uniform Day Friday 25th October

As usual for this time of year, as we enter the period of remembrance for lives lost during the First World War and in conflicts ever since, next week's Non-Uniform Day will support the Royal British Legion's annual Poppy Appeal. Students must bring £1 donation to take part. Students who do not wish to make a contribution must attend school in full school uniform on that day.

We will also have poppies (and other RBL items) available in the school office next week and up to Armistice Day on 11th November. All donations will go the Royal British Legion charity.

This Week's WESPA Round-Up:

Dear families,

Thank you so much to all the parents who helped with and around the Ofsted inspection last week. To reiterate Izzy’s words, the inspection process is intense and thorough and having support from parents really helped staff to remain focused and energetic throughout. This is much more than a couple of days though, and moments like this offer an opportunity to demonstrate the huge amount of dedication and energy poured into our school from school leaders, staff, governors and of course us, the parents and families of WES. I understand that the inspectors were impressed by the community surrounding WES and the messages submitted through the Ofsted survey.

I look forward to the result but mostly I feel really proud to be part of a school where a huge majority of parents consider their son happy, safe and would recommend William Ellis to other parents. Thank you to everybody who has contributed and continues to make our community what it is.

Cross Country

Congratulations to the students who, following their success in the WES Fun Run, went on to represent William Ellis earlier this week in the Camden Cross Country and, as always, a BIG thank you to the parents cheering them on from the sidelines. Y7 parent Rosshalde had this to say:

As a new family to William Ellis, it is always fun to get involved and really learn how things works.  Recently my husband and I were able to participate in the Fun Run. The students were so excited and definitely enjoyed the outdoor course.  The top six runners from each year were then asked to join the Cross Country team - which had its first meet with all of Camden on Tuesday, October 15th.  Watching those first set of boys come across that 2K finish time was amazing.  As Mr. Court said, “These are the fastest boys in all of Camden.”.

We are now awaiting to see which individual runners will move on to more meets and competitions, the next one will also be on the Heath.

We really are lucky to be in such a great school that incorporates the natural wonder we have of the Heath, and to take care and focus on the mental and physical health of our boys; alongside their academics.

WESPA AGM

The WESPA AGM will be held on 27th November 2024 and will be followed by a general meeting. Every year all Trustees step down and can stand for reelection alongside any parents who would like to join the Committee. If you would like to become a Trustee of WESPA, please email williamellispa@gamil.com in advance of the meeting.

It is important that we have a quorum at this meeting (enough members present to validate elections and decisions) so please do join if you can. The agenda is below.

Have a great weekend.

Best wishes,

Al
