Magic Breakfast
We are delighted to be in partnership with Magic Breakfast and so able to offer a free breakfast for all William Ellis students, Monday to Friday.
Breakfast plays a big part in paving the way for a high achieving and happy student, and eating a nutritious meal before school begins is vital.
Research shows that the benefits of a healthy breakfast for teenagers include:
- Improved concentration
- Better behaviour
- Healthier lifestyle
- Happier student
- Readiness to learn
Additionally, Breakfast Club is a way to ensure students are in school on time and gives them the opportunity to interact with staff and their peers.
William Ellis School’s free breakfast club runs daily in the canteen from 8am – 8.30am Monday to Friday and offers a choice of cereals, toasted bread, toasted bagel or crumpet. We encourage all students to take advantage of this!
Year 7 Science Fair
A Year 7 student, writes:
Last month there was a wonderful science fair at a church in Hampstead run by a school called Devonshire House. It was exclusively for Year 7 students, and in order to participate you had to create a project on an experiment, investigating a topic and detailing your results with graphs and tables. Three students (as well as me) decided to apply.
When we got there, we were put into groups with other schools and showed each other our projects. Then we did an eyes-closed vote to decide who would advance to the later rounds of the science fair. There was also an engineering contest where we had to build a bridge using cardboard and lolly sticks and gradually add weights to the top of it. In order to win you needed to put at least a kilogram of weight onto your bridge. It was very fun, and I enjoyed it greatly.
Thank you to Ms Cockcroft for organising it for us.
Year 11 National Portrait Gallery Visit
Mr Gunter, Head of DT writes:
As part of their exam preparations, Year 11 Art and Graphics students visited the Portrait Gallery in March to continue their research for the exam theme ‘Power’.
They explored the gallery with the help of the education department and found a variety of different portraits that suited their own work. The boys had to draw and write about a specific piece of art. They all did this excellently and represented the school in a positive way.
Year 13 Graphics Trip to The Wellcome Collection
Ms Madson, Head of Art, Craft & Design, writes:
On the 27th March, Year 13 Graphic Communication students went to see the exhibition at the Wellcome collection called ‘ The Cult of Beauty’. This looked at ideas of beauty from the perspectives of art and science.
Students created drawings to link into their A level exam theme of 'observe, seek, challenge'. They spent the afternoon in the Wellcome collection's beautiful reading room, working with lots of other creative people from all over London.
