Autumn Term - 7th November 2025

Welcome to our latest news update, including recognition for our students at the prestigious Jack Petchey Awards evening and further information about the LaSWAP Open Evening - this is immediately relevant to Year 11 families but gives younger year groups a sneak preview of what our 6th form provision looks like.

The Sixth Form Open Evening takes place on Thursday 27th November across our school site and that of Parliament Hill School. To prepare for this event we will be dismissing students at 1.10pm on that day.

Students will be registered by their Form Tutor at 1pm on this day and will be able to get a grab-and-go lunch from the canteen before leaving at 1.10pm.

The following day, Friday 28th November, will be a Staff Professional Development Day and school will be closed. This along with other dates are listed at https://www.williamellis.camden.sch.uk/about-us/term-dates

Making the most of LaSWAP Open Evening: Thursday 27 November at Parliament Hill/William Ellis schools@ 4.30 – 7.30pm

2025 was the best ever year for A level and BTEC results at LaSWAP and over 80% of students based at WES got into their first-choice university. We are really proud of our sixth form which is now a destination of choice for students from across London.

We are looking forward to seeing  Y11 students and their families at LaSWAP Open evening on Thursday 27 November. Booking has been going very well and over 50 places have so far been booked by William Ellis students. Don’t worry if you haven’t yet secured a place, there are still some slots available via this booking link.

Remember that students must be accompanied by an adult to Open Evening. If any parent cannot attend, please get in touch with your child’s tutor or Mr Pratt to make alternative arrangements. We want everyone in the year group to see what’s on offer at our over-subscribed sixth form. For example, while you might be familiar with the WES curriculum, did you know that some of the more niche subjects LaSWAP offers include:

  • A level Classics & Latin
  • A level Textiles & Photography & Product Design
  • A level Dance & Drama
  • A Level Psychology & Further Maths
  • T-Levels in Digital Software Design, Media Broadcast & Production & Marketing
  • BTEC Sports Leadership (Level 2 and Level 3)

On arrival on the evening, please head for the main student entrance at Parliament Hill School and make sure you have your QR code ready for scanning. We do not allow people in before their booked time slot so stage your arrival accordingly as you will not want to be shivering outside in a long queue!

I recommend heading to one of the Headteacher talks first for an overview of LaSWAP and then plan which subjects you want to visit. If your time is limited, visit subjects that you are less familiar with (Economics rather than Maths, for example) so that you leave feeling fully informed. There will be student ambassadors stationed across both sites wearing bright LaSWAP t-shirts; if you need anything, please ask them. Good questions to ask them are, ‘why did you choose to come to LaSWAP?’ and ‘what is the biggest difference between Y11 and sixth form?’

Sixth form is not just about academic study. Make sure you factor in enough time to visit the sixth form study space where you can find out about enrichment, pastoral support and what support is available for student with additional educational needs.

Applications for LaSWAP will be launched with students via tutors in January 2026. Closing date for applications is 27 February 2026.

Attendance Updates

Now that we have had a full two months of this term, I'd like to congratulate the students across years 7 to 11 who have 97% attendance or above so far this year. Attendance has been particularly strong in11K, 10W, 9F, 8K and 7K. We know that strong attendance in early Autumn sets a pattern – ideally a positive one – for the rest of the academic year.

Before the half term holiday, we shared links to NHS guidance about students attending school when ill - although some infectious conditions mean that students stay away from school, there are many circumstances when minor illness doesn't need to be a reason to stay at home.

It is also important that in the run up to Christmas and looking ahead to 2026, families arrange holidays and other trips outside of term time. You can see our term dates using the link above. This is important for all students, not only those who have exams this year.

Student Awards: Jack Petchey and Camden Volunteering recognition

Two groups of students received prestigious awards this week.

On Tuesday evening our Jack Petchey Award Winners for 2024-25 attended a ceremony to receive their awards:

Jake 11L, James 11F, Kieran 10K, Kurosh 11L, Riyad 11W, Toby 10F

Zak, formerly of 11K, also received an award. Former Sixth Form students Alec and Kofi were not able to attend, but they were recognised.

The following students also attended the Camden Voluntary Sector Awards ceremony at Camden Town Hall:

Ali 11B, Farris 11L, Kyron 11B, Daniel 11W, James 11B, Joseph 11B, Leon 11B, Reamann 11B, Zayan 11K

They won first prize for the work they did making a series of educational short films and leading community activities with Fitzrovia Youth in Action during and after work experience.

Congratulations to all these students on their achievements and their contributions to the school and wider communities.

Hurricane Melissa Relief

As you may be aware, Hurricane Melissa has recently devastated the island of Jamaica, damaging a third of the island's infrastructure and housing and displacing many people.

Recovery will be extremely challenging and there is immediate need for help.

One of our Year 11 parents has identified three internationally renowned and/or locally vetted organisations that are accepting donations, and has asked us to share their details with families who may be wish to make a donation to this cause.

World Central Kitchen is helping to feed families affected by the hurricane. Donate to provide fresh meals to communities in Jamaica by clicking here.

Supportjamaica.gov.jm - has further information about ways to support response and recovery for an estimated 400,000 people affected by Hurricane Melissa. Donations can be made here.

Food For The Poor is providing essential relief and support to those who have lost everything, including emergency supplies, medical aid and temporary housing. To donate, click here.

Spotlight on Autism Session, Wednesday 26th November

10.30-12 Noon at Haverstock School

Families from Camden schools are invited to attend Spotlight on Autism, a special event bringing together a panel of specialists and individuals with lived experience of autism.

This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers of autistic young people in and around Camden to gain insight, share experiences, and ask questions in a supportive environment.

You can also submit your questions in advance for the panel to discuss on the day.

Come along to connect, learn, and be part of an open conversation about autism and how we can best support our young people.

For more information or to submit a question for the panel, contact: haverstockSEND@h3federation.org.uk.

SENDIASS Camden SEND Father’s Group – online and in person

Remembrance and RBL's Poppy Appeal

{item_alt_tag}

Tuesday, 11th November, marks Armistice Day - the end of fighting in World War One in 1918. This occasion will be marked in school with assemblies through the week touching on themes of remembrance, respect and courage, and with a 2 minute silence on Armistice Day itself.

The school office has poppies available for students who wish to donate to the work of the Royal British Legion in supporting veterans of conflict. We request a minimum donation of 30p per poppy from students, though any more than that would be gratefully received by RBL.

Yours faithfully,

Izzy Jones

Headteacher

This Week's WESPA Round-Up:

Dear families,

Welcome back! I hope everybody has had a great break. There is always lots of fun stuff going on this half term and the WESPA team will be organising various events for us all to get together. Last half term we had our cafe social, pub social and it was also great to see many parents at the Trust event launch. Alistair Campbell was a really thought provoking and interesting speaker. The highlight for me was his discussion with the students and the boys were brilliant. Such interesting questions and so articulate.

It is a really straightforward and fun way to help school and our boys so don’t be put off by titles! Any of the current committee would be very happy to answer questions and to offer support throughout the year.
