Autumn Term - 28th November 2025

LANGUAGES FOR ALL AND A HUGE THANK YOU

This week's newsletter celebrates recent student successes, including "Where Can Languages Take Me?" for Years 7-10, Year 10 economists mastering real-world investment challenges, and outstanding Year 11 Graphics work at the Hunterian Museum. It also includes essential reminders about Year 7 Parents' Evening on 4th December and Year 11 Mock Exams beginning 8th December.

On behalf of staff, students and families, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Al Mobbs, who is stepping down as Chair of WESPA. Al, with other parents and carers who have been an active part of the community, has made a huge difference to how we work together and the positive energy in the school in recent years.

Year 7 Parents' Evening

A reminder to Year 7 families that Parents' Evening takes place next Thursday, 4th December. Just over half of families have booked their appointments via MCAS.

Families who have not yet made their bookings must do this as soon as possible in order to meet their son's teachers to discuss progress.

Our School Attendance Officer, Ms Groves, will be available during Parents' Evening for conversations about supporting attendance and punctuality.

Guidance about appointment booking can be found on the Parents’ Evening webpage: www.williamellis.camden.sch.uk/parents-evenings

If you are having any problems with logging in to MCAS or making bookings, please contact Mr Khan, Information Systems Manager: akhan@williamellis.camden.sch.uk

Year 11 Mock Exams

A reminder that Year 11 Mock Exams will begin on Monday 8th December. On the Year 11 page of our website, you can find more details about revision strategies, how to support Year 11 with exam anxiety and stress as well as more detail about subject content.

Students will remain in school for lessons and supported revision when not in exams.

'Where Will Languages Take Me' Event

Ms Rodgers writes:

On Tuesday 18th November, students in Years 7-10 took part in a live webinar for International Education Week, where they heard three very different speakers talk about their own language learning journey, the languages that they have learnt, where they have travelled to, the skills that learning languages can bring and how they use languages in their work.

This was followed by reflections & conversations about language learning in MFL lessons, with some examples of student notes below.

Year 10 Economics Investment Challenge

Ms Mallick writes:

Year 10 GCSE Economics students participated in the M&G Investment Challenge last week. Students were introduced to the various forms of investment, ranging from the least risky (cash) to the most risky (crypto).

After that, they played a game that helped them see their attitude to risk before competing in a real-world investment simulation challenge. It was a great afternoon with students sampling what it is like to be a sixth former as the workshop took place in the LaSWAP building.

Well done to all involved who represented the school as model students.

Year 11 Graphics Trip to the Hunterian Museum

Ms Kendall writes:

Last week, Year 11 Graphics students visited the Hunterian Museum. This is a small museum that is part of the Royal College of Surgeons. It houses the extraordinary specimen collection of the 18th century surgeon anatomist John Hunter. The Year 11 students worked really hard and produced some interesting drawings which will be part of their coursework themed 'Together and apart'.

Year 9 'Stranger Things' Theatre Trip

Ms Hughes writes:

On Friday 21st November, 25 Year 9 students watched @Stranger Things: The First Shadow' at the Phoenix Theatre. We were all so impressed with the production, and have already started using it as inspiration for our WW1 drama in lessons by using cross-cutting like they did in the play. The students were impeccably behaved and did the school proud, well done boys!

This Week's WESPA Round-Up:

Dear families,

As many of you know, after starting my fourth year, I will be stepping down as WESPA Chair at our AGM. Part of that role has been to write regular updates on behalf of the WESPA Team. Over the years, there have been a variety of news sources at school and now, with the weekly school newsletter so brimming with amazing information, there is less need for a weekly WESPA missive or dedicated newsletter.

So after just over 80,000 words of updates, announcements, tidings, lighthearted missives and more serious news and newsletters (huge thanks to Nick for all the newsletter layout and design work), I am stepping down from this comms role. There will of course still be updates for events and WESPA goings on when they happen so stay tuned to the school newsletter and the WhatsApp groups.

I look forward to seeing those attending the WESPA AGM next week on Tuesday 2nd December at 6pm in the library.

Best wishes,

Al

Chair WESPA
