Autumn Term - 18th September 2026

 

Welcome to our latest news update, including a follow up to last year's newsletter to families about support learning at home. Increasingly, one of the ways that we allow you to do that is through a range of software applications - but the list of these is growing! Below, we have listed all the applications that students or families might use, what they are for and how to log into them. We hope that this helps you to get fully set up for the year ahead!

Could your child be eligible for Free School Meals?

Your child may be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM). We encourage all parents and carers to check whether their child qualifies, as receiving FSM can provide support for your family.

Open Event Season has begun!

It has been a great start to the Autumn Open Event season, with our first Open Morning earlier this week. We had the pleasure of meeting lots of families about to embark on the transition journey from Primary to Secondary School.

As ever, our tour guides did a wonderful job of showing families around school, talking frankly and eloquently about their school experience and answering their questions about life at William Ellis. We are very proud of all the students involved.

Open Events continue next week with another Open Morning on Wednesday and Open Evening at 6pm on Thursday. 

School will close early on Thursday so that the site can be prepared for this event. Students will be dismissed after registration at lunchtime and will be able to get a grab-and-go lunch from the canteen before leaving school.

We will also have a late start the following day.  On Friday 25th September morning registration will be at 9.35am.

Remaining events are booking up fast, with the next two Open Mornings already fully booked, but if you have family or friends with a child approaching the end of primary school and thinking about next steps, please let them know that they can sign up for Open Morning on 14th October, Open Evening and our 'Meet The Head' Q&A event here: https://www.williamellis.camden.sch.uk/admissions-information . 

The secondary school application window is open until 31 October 2026. Camden residents can submit applications at camden.gov.uk/secondary-school-admissions, while families in other boroughs apply via London’s eAdmissions website. 

Parents’ Evenings and MCAS (My Child At School)

Parents’ Evenings this academic year will be scheduled as follows:

 All Year 7-11 Parents' Evenings begin at 4pm, with appointments up to 6.30pm.

Appointment booking for Parents’ Evenings will be via your child’s MCAS account. You will be notified when booking opens for your child’s year group. If you do not already regularly use MCAS, please click on the following link to set up your account: https://www.mychildatschool.com/MCAS/MCSForgottenLogin (you will need to use the email address to which this newsletter has been sent).

MCAS is also used for issuing academic progress information and grade sheets and parents/carers can monitor behaviour and attendance information from this portal. Please do use the portal to engage with your child’s education if you do not already do so. 

Online Learning Systems - Student logins

William Ellis students in years 7 to 11 have multiple logins for their use of computer-based software. All students have a Microsoft Office account that allows them to use all Microsoft programmes at school and at home.

Students can choose their own password after initial login. MFL Teachers can help with re-setting the password if there are difficulties logging in.

Camden 'Introduction to ADHD' Session, 21st September

Camden SEND Surgery, 22 September

Camden's next SEND Surgery will take place on Tuesday 22 September 2026, 10.30am to 12.30pm at Thomas Coram Centre (Nursery), 49 Mecklenburgh Square, London WC1N 2NY

SEND Surgeries are open to all Camden parents and carers of children and young people with SEND. They provide an opportunity to speak directly with SEND officers, managers and specialist services, ask questions, share feedback and find out more about local support available. The sessions are free to attend and there is no need to book.

ESOL Advice Service

Camden Council’s ESOL Advice Service is a single point of contact for parents aged 19 plus who want to improve their English language skills so they can take the next step in their lives, jobs and communities without being held back by language barriers.

You can register online as a parent or on behalf of one. The service will then help to find a suitable class based on level and circumstances, in partnership with local ESOL learning providers. We strive to place parents in free classes whenever possible.

Participants can also practise their English at home, using specially curated online ESOL Activities

Free Medicine Work Experience for Students Aged 14–18

The PremedProjects Team at Leeds Beckett University are running Future Doctors Month — four completely free, live online medical work experience sessions for students aged 14–18.

Students can join our doctors virtually each Sunday and work through a different interactive medical scenario:

11 October — A&E: Can You Save the Patient?
Students assess an emergency patient and decide what should happen next.

18 October — Inside the Operating Theatre: Anaesthetics
Explore anaesthesia, airway management, monitoring and how patients are kept safe during surgery.

25 October — The Diagnosis Challenge: Medical Detective
Students investigate a mystery patient, interpret the evidence and work towards a diagnosis.

1 November — Outbreak: Can You Stop the Spread?
Investigate an infectious disease outbreak and make clinical and public-health decisions.

All sessions are live online at 2pm UK time and recordings will be available afterwards, so students don't need to attend live.

At the end of the programme, students can take our Future Doctors Knowledge Test, with those achieving 80% or above receiving a personalised certificate.

It's completely free and students only need to register once for all four sessions.

The Student Body Student Summit 2026 - Free Event

The Student Body is a UK-wide organisation focused on enhancing the student experience and bridging the gap between education and real-world opportunity. Through community, events and programmes, they help students access career insight, professional development, industry exposure, mentoring, work experience and opportunities that can support them in making informed decisions about their futures.

The Student Summit on Saturday 26th September will bring together students from across the UK for a day focused on careers, development, networking and access to opportunity.

The event is designed to give students practical exposure beyond the classroom. Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from professionals and industry leaders, take part in workshops and developmental sessions, explore different career pathways and connect with organisations that can support their next steps.

Students attending the Summit will have the opportunity to:

• Gain insight into a range of industries and career pathways
• Hear directly from professionals, leaders and speakers about their experiences
• Take part in practical sessions designed to support their personal and professional development
• Meet organisations offering internships, graduate opportunities, work experience, programmes and other forms of support
• Build their professional networks and connect with students from across the UK
• Discover opportunities they may not otherwise come across through their university experience

The Summit is open to students at different stages of their journey, including those who already have a clear career direction and those who are still exploring what their next steps might look like.

London Screen Academy – Film & TV Pathways for Years 11 & 13 

Join LSA (London Screen Academy) on Tuesday 6th October, 6–8pm to explore film and TV career pathways. Walk through working studios, try hands-on equipment, meet industry professionals and current students, and get honest insights into life at the school. Parents and families welcome.

LSA runs only three open events per year, so reserve your place now—it takes under a minute!
