Welcome to our latest news update, including information about the Year 10 exams coming up later this month, next steps for Year 11 students as they prepare for further education, and news of the recent Key Stage 3 Camps. There is also a reminder of next week's International Evening, which we hope you'll join us for.

May Attendance Raffle Winners

Congratulations to the following students who won prizes in the Attendance Raffle before half term.

There were two awards per year group, for most improved attendance over the half term and for a student drawn at random from those with 100% attendance for one or more of the last 3 weeks.

Most improved this term:

Year 7- Rocco

Year 8- Mahdi

Year 9-  Kai

Year 10- Tarek

100% Attendance Raffle:

Year 7- Abubakr

Year 8- Elias

Year 9- Ottis

Year 10- Rian

Well done to all the students whose attendance has improved this term. The long term benefits of excellent school attendance are greater depth of knowledge in subjects leading to increased academic progression and greater social development with stronger peer-to-peer bonds.

Year 10 Exams 15th-24th June

A reminder to Year 10 families that exams begin the week after next, with Art and Graphics on 15th-16th and written exams beginning on Wednesday 17th June.

For the duration of the assessment period students should attend school at normal times, in full school uniform. Students will attend lessons as normal when not in an exam.

International Evening, 10th June at 5pm

We are very excited for next week's International Evening, our annual celebration of the cultures that make up our school community.

We hope as many of you as possible will join us on Wednesday for an evening of food, performance and activities for all ages. If you've attended before you'll know what a wonderful atmosphere the event generates and if you haven't it's time to come along and find out!

If you haven't already done so, book your family's free tickets here.

If you feel able to contribute to the event by bringing food or a cultural item or activity, or by offering some time to help on the day, please complete this short form or contact WESPA.

Year 11 Leavers' Celebration

We look forward to Year 11 students celebrating the end of their exams and their five years at William Ellis on 25th June. The achievements of the students' time here will be marked with a presentation ceremony in the Hall, which Year 11 families are invited to attend, then staff and students will gather for a barbecue in the playground.

While there is no dress code for this event, clothing should follow the rules of Non-Uniform Day, which can be found here, and students should be mindful that friends and family members will be taking photographs, so are advised to wear something that they will be happy to be remembered by in years to come!

LaSWAP Taster Day

Bookings are now live for LaSWAP Taster Day, on Friday, 3rd July. This is an opportunity for applicants to LaSWAP to come and get a taste of what study in our sixth form is really like. All applicants can choose to attend either the morning or afternoon sessions. The event will be held at LSU and students will participate in three sessions, having a taste of three different post 16 courses. Light refreshments will be provided for break time.

All applicants should check the inbox of the email address that they applied to LaSWAP with, for details of how to book, including the booking link. If there are any issues, please do contact me on fwilson@williamellis.camden.sch.uk

Key Stage 3 Camps at the Mill

The week before half term, Year 9 students headed to The Mill, marking the end of Key Stage 3 and their transition into GCSE study.

Students spent two nights at The Mill and two at Etherley Farm, taking part in a range of activities including team building, problem solving, creativity challenges, and low ropes at The Mill.

A highlight of the trip was the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze training expedition. Over two days, students navigated and walked 13km through the Surrey Hills in small groups, carrying everything they needed and cooking and preparing all their own food. It was a genuine test of teamwork, resilience, and self-reliance.

The trip was a memorable rite of passage for the year group, sending them into their GCSE years with confidence, new friendships strengthened, and a real sense of what they are capable of.

Year 7 have been at The Mill this week for their two-night camp; the foundation of their outdoor learning over the next 2 years. Further detail of their time at Camp will follow in the next newsletter, but here are some photos form the last few days.

Year 8 Camp is coming up in late June and early July.
