Duke of Edinburgh Trip to Ashdown Forest
On Saturday during the bank holiday weekend, eighteen, Year 10 boys as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award travelled to the Ashdown Forest in Kent for a hike and overnight camp. The boys each planned their own routes before travelling by train from Central London with Mr Merhag, Mr Fuller, Ms Conran and Ms Ozkaya. They had to carry their own camping equipment and food with them during the c. 10K walk, so although rather strenuous they enjoyed good weather, and the lovely blue bell woods!
Defribrillators for Schools
On Wednesday next week, Mr White will be at Camden School for Girls (CSfG) for the launch of a campaign to fundraise on behalf of the charity “Hand on Heart” for a defibrillator for every Camden school with the aim of then providing them to schools in other boroughs. There will be a presentation of the first defibrillator to CSfG; William Ellis is amongst the next six schools to be nominated.
We’ll post some further information about this campaign next week, along with details of a special fundraising supper on Saturday 11th June that you are encouraged to buy tickets for. Rosh Keegan is leading this fundraising with the charity “Hand on Heart” in memory of her daughter Ani, a student at CSfG, who died from Sudden Cardiac Arrest in October 2002 and we are pleased to help her cause.
MEASLES OUTBREAK
Please click here for a letter for parents from Public Health England. The letter alerts parents to the current outbreak and asks them to ensure their child has had a Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine or that they arrange this as soon as possible from their GP. It also explains the symptoms and lets them know what to do if they think their child may have measles.
Exams
The exams season has now started in school. Apart from GCSE and A Level exams being sat in school over the new few weeks, the Year 9 exams week starts on Monday. Please help your sons/daughters for the exams by making sure they get to bed in good time each night and make sure they bring water bottle along with them to keep hydrated as well as a supply of stationery - pens and pencils, etc. Pens are available from the school office at 40p each and pencils 30p.
Clubs
There are lots of varied clubs (from the Carnegie Shadowing Reading Club to Latin Club) running at lunchtimes and after school. We will be putting up details of the clubs on our website, so do please look at these and encourage your son to expand his school experience and vary his day.
Sports News
Sports Day
Our annual sports day is on Friday, 20th May. Boys have all had assemblies led by Mr Rourke, letting them know about the various events. He has encouraged them to sign up with their tutor for either a track event or to be part of the football, dodgeball or table tennis competitions. Mr Rourke expects the “tug of war event” to be popular! Track events will be held on Parliament Hill athletics track in the afternoon. Parents are not specifically invited but you are welcome to drop by if you are on the heath then.
City Year Championship 5-A-Side Football
On Saturday, 21st May City Year UK will be running a 5-A-Side Football Championship at Haggerston Park, London E2 from 9.30-3.30am. If your son is interested in signing up for this they should speak to a member of the City Year team for more information.

Camden Indoor Rowing Competition
Mr Szymanski travelled with WES boys from four year groups: 7, 8, 9 & 10 to the Camden Indoor Rowing Competition held at Regent High School on Wednesday, 4th May. The students competed against 6 other boys’ teams from other secondary Camden schools and we are proud that our boys have now won this competition 7 consecutive years in a row!
