ANNUAL HOUSE CHESS COMPETITION
This week saw the start of our annual House Chess competition. Students from every form in Year 7 and Year 8 have battled it out to be named chess champ and win up to 20 House points. The event is always popular, with many students and staff popping in to support their House reps. So far, Alessandro of Willow and Nahid of Lauderdale have won the Year 7 and Year 8 rounds of the tournament respectively, with Year 9 and Year 10 getting involved next week.
Well done to all the boys who have joined the competition and done an excellent job of representing their House.
INTERNATIONAL LUNCHTIME BUFFET
Isabelle, Lena and Jan, our Modern Foreign Language Assistants, along with sixth form students hosted an event for students and staff on Wednesday this week. They shared food from different countries, listened to music and joined in an intercultural knowledge quiz. Ms Brown, Director of Sixth, said that “it was a very lovely event, students and staff in a social context sharing food, conversation and holiday plans.”
Defibrillators for Schools
Further to our post last week, you might have seen in the Camden New Journal this week an article about an event at Camden School for Girls (CSfG) which Mr White attended along with other Camden headteachers and special guests Ms Dynamite and Baroness Tessa Jowell for the launch of a campaign to fundraise on behalf of the charity “Hand on Heart” for a defibrillator for every Camden school.
There was a presentation of the first defibrillator to CSfG. William Ellis is amongst the next six schools to be nominated to receive one. In turn our school will fundraise for a defibrillator for another Camden school.
Rosh Keegan is leading this fundraising with the charity “Hand on Heart” in memory of her daughter Ani, a student at CSfG, who died from Sudden Cardiac Arrest in October 2002 and we are pleased to help her in her cause.
Rosh (described in the Camden Journal as the “Bhaji Queen” of Tufnell Park and well known for her popular Indian delicacies) will be cooking for a fundraising event to be held at Camden School for Girls on Saturday 11th June. There will be an auction of artwork by Eileen Cooper, Ralph Steadman and street artist “Him-Bad”.
All William Ellis parents are invited to buy tickets, donate towards the charity via “Just Giving” or the silent auction – see links below.

Exams now in full flow
Please help your sons/daughters prepare for their exams by making sure they get to bed in good time each night and have a balanced breakfast or lunch – a banana is a good idea. Please make sure they bring a water bottle along with them to keep hydrated as well as a supply of stationery - pens and pencils, etc. Pens are available from the school office at 40p each and pencils 30p.
